Today Gracie and I strolled downtown to do some antiquing and we found a few awesome treasures. I promise I’ll share photos soon. We popped into the little Mexican grocery store on the corner of Plum and Main to order the ingredients for fresh tamales. (I can’t wait to share my recipe with you…) and into the Red Wing Confectionery for a truffle. We sat in LaGrange Park for awhile after getting iced mango tea at Caribou and admired the many hanging baskets and feature fountain that graces the center of the park. We gazed out at the Mississippi river, so many pretty boats on their way to other ports…We  listened to bees buzz, the birds chirp and the cars whiz by on Main street. Another gorgeous day in Red Wing Minnesota.

Here’s a beautiful and easy way to add a bit of magic to your summer salads…. Just add flowers. That’s it! Add unsprayed, edible flowers and rose petals for fragrance, color and a flowery (sometimes radish-like peppery) flavor!

For the salad pictured above, simply mix the following ingredients in a pretty salad bowl: Spring Greens, fresh garden herbs, unsprayed rose petals and sweet, creamy poppyseed dressing.

~ polka dot dressing ~

1 cup light mayonnaise

1/3 cup honey

zest of 1/2 orange

2 Tablespoons poppy seeds

1-2 Tablespoons apple cider vinegar

pinch of salt

Place all ingredients in a canning jar and shake to mix. Pour over fruit salad. Fold in gently. Cover tightly and refrigerate until you’re ready to top your salad.

Enjoy!

XO,

~Melissa
